For all those parents who remember the first huge phone bill loaded with cell phone ringtones and texting fees from their kids, the unfortunate news is that this is not a thing of the past. The multibillion dollar market of mobile app makers is gearing up to target children into making lots of small purchases within apps, games and social networking services.

For example, an avatar accessory in their video game or a cool new ringtone may cost only 50 cents, but these small fees quickly add up if kids use the apps on a daily basis. And these so-called "micro payments" end up on your credit card or monthly wireless bill, giving you a macro headache. The payments represent a new revenue stream for app and game makers, particularly those who market through Apple's iTunes store. Some app creators report they are seeing four and five times the revenue from sales of things in the app than from the original app.

The Chicago area is one of the first markets that will be getting the fastest new internet service, which will really speed up things like music downloads. Comcast Corp. will offer a super-fast internet service which the company says will allow a user to download a 10-song music album in just three seconds.

The Extreme 105 service will be quite expensive at $200 a month for new and existing Comcast customers in Chicago. In other markets, Comcast is offering an introductory rate of $15 a month. This offering is geared towards household with intense bandwidth needs or many web-connected devices like computers, gaming consoles and tablets. At 105 megabits per second, a user can download a four-gigabyte, high-definition movie in five minutes. In comparison, this would take 1 ½ hours using a 6-megabits-per-second connection.

The rumors are that iPod deals are just around the corner this Fall, as the iPod Touch is being newly run by its maker in the form of a hot white version. The color change will be a unique spin on the classix iPod Touch model. And the rumors involve more than just the iPod Touch, with a growing list of new products said to be launched in September as well.

These include the possible introduction of a new iPhone 5 that features an A5 processor plus an 8 megapixel camera, along with a new iPad 3 that will have an A-6 processor. Many iPod fans felt that their favorite product was being neglected my its manufacturer in favor of the iPad and iPhone, so this news gives them something to cheer about if it's true. The iPod was the original device that spawned a movement, and it seems that its time in the spotlight is not quite over.
